Fund Controller - Real Estate Impact Equity Fund (Multifamily)

Full-time

Location: Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings in the Philadelphia area

 

About the CS Large Cities Housing Fund

BDP is the fund manager of the CS Large Cities Housing Fund, a $125 million closed-end private equity fund that acquires, owns and operates multifamily properties in selected cities across the United States toward the goal of ending homelessness in those communities.  The fund has a non-profit sponsor (GP) and investment from large institutional investors and family offices. 

 

Position Overview

BDP is seeking a hands-on, experienced Controller to lead/oversee all aspects of accounting, finance and reporting for the Fund.  Specifically, the Fund Controller will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing monthly financial statements prepared by third-party property managers at each property to ensure accuracy

  • Compiling property-level financial statements for transmission to the Fund’s third-party Fund Administrator

  • Managing all aspects of the accounting at the Fund, including fund income, expenses and capital accounts

  • Working closely with the Fund’s third-party tax and audit service providers to collate information, answer questions and ensure timely completion of tax returns and the annual audit

  • Overseeing the quarterly asset valuation process in coordination with third-party service providers

 

The role will be supported by a third-party Fund Administrator and Tax/Audit firm. Fund Controller is the senior-most accounting/finance role in the Fund and reports directly to the Fund Portfolio Manager.  

 

Essential Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an impact-driven leader with aspirations for increasing levels of responsibility.  Candidates should have at least seven years of accounting and finance experience, with specific experience in real estate.  Experience with property management and/or fund accounting is strongly desired.  

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field; CPA or equivalent is preferred

  • 7+ years of related accounting and financial operational experience; multifamily real estate experience preferred

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Familiar with property management software systems; experience with Yardi and Buildium a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate results and reports within deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external constituents

  • Strong mastery of standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures within the real estate industry

  • Familiar with fund and partnership accounting

  • Demonstrated ability to assess, analyze and improve accounting systems

  • Successful experience managing a team that includes internal and external members

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the functional lines of a fast-paced company

  • Shared passion for company’s social-impact mission
