BDP is a full service real estate development company that specializes in social impact development. We partner with private and nonprofit clients on real estate investment strategies and development projects that achieve targeted social and financial returns. Our current portfolio includes the development of several large residential and mixed-use projects on behalf of private and nonprofit clients, scattered-site residential redevelopment in Philadelphia, and the management of a social impact equity fund for a large nonprofit client.
About the CS Large Cities Housing Fund
BDP is the fund manager of the CS Large Cities Housing Fund I and Housing Fund II, each a $150 million closed-end private equity fund that acquires, owns and operates multifamily properties in selected cities across the United States toward the goal of ending homelessness in those communities. The fund has a nonprofit sponsor (GP) and investment from large institutional investors and family offices.
Position Overview
BDP is seeking a hands-on, experienced Accountant to assist with all aspects of accounting, finance and reporting for the Fund. Specifically, the Accountant will be responsible for:
Reviewing monthly property financial statements prepared by third-party property managers at each property to ensure accuracy
Creating and maintaining work papers for each property
Proposing journal entries when needed and investigating any accounting questions and errors
New property initial journal entry and reconciliation
Data formatting of monthly financials and uploading them to Yardi Breeze
Updating Operations report monthly
Budget analysis and uploading to Yardi Breeze
Providing accounting support to the team and assisting with audit process for the Fund and Fund properties
Assisting with banking transfers and wires if/when needed
Assisting with Investor deck reporting if needed
Assisting with making online payments for certain invoices if needed
Ad hoc reports when needed
Working closely with the Fund’s third-party tax and audit service providers to collate information, answer questions and ensure timely completion of tax returns and the annual audit
Assisting with the quarterly asset valuation process in coordination with third-party service providers
This role reports directly to the Director of Finance.
Essential Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an impact-driven leader with aspirations for increasing levels of responsibility. Candidates should have at least three years of accounting and finance experience, with specific experience in real estate. Experience with property management and/or fund accounting is strongly desired.
Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field
5+ years of related accounting and financial operational experience; multifamily real estate experience preferred
Strong Excel skills
Familiar with property management software systems; experience with Yardi a plus
Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate results and reports within deadlines
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external constituents
Strong mastery of standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures within the real estate industry
Familiar with fund and partnership accounting
Demonstrated ability to assess, analyze and improve accounting systems
Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the functional lines of a fast-paced company
Shared passion for company’s social-impact mission
We are offering a competitive salary with a target of $85,000 for candidates with at least five years of relevant accounting experience; a CPA is not required for this role.
